The Sound of Music

This evening Marina and I had tickets to see The Sound of Music. We had just a short time after arriving home to get ready to go. We ate dinner quickly and hurried out to see the show. We decided to take the light rail to the theater. We had a bit of a wait when we arrived at the station. Marina mostly played on her phone during the ride. She did doze off toward after a little while.

We arrived a bit early for the Kids Night on Broadway activities. Marina was able to color some pictures, spin a wheel for prizes and write a card for the military overseas. After that we picked up some snacks and went to our seats, which gave us a good view of the stage. Marina was excited when the show started. I was impressed with how many of the songs she recognized. She had sung “Do Re Mi” in choir a few years ago but she was also familiar with “My Favorite Things.”

At intermission, Marina was very enthusiastic about the show. She especially liked the youngest daughter in the family. We walked around the theater a bit and took a few pictures before heading back to our seats. Once the show was over, Marina said she loved it. We decided to stay for a talkback at the end. Three members of the cast came out to answer questions. Marina was disappointed that none of the kids came out. But she asked a question anyway.

After the talkback, we walked to the light rail station. Our train arrived just a few minutes later. We were both very tired by this time but we had a nice couple we talked to on the ride back. By the time we arrived at home we were both ready to go to bed. It had been a fun evening, but it was really late by then!

Lea Movie Premiere

This evening we had tickets for the American Girl movie premiere, Lea to the Rescue. This year, Marina decided to bring Kailey with her. Both dressed in the Grace outfit. We met some of her friends there.

A few activities were set up and the girls tried all of those. They also posed for photos on the red carpet and stood in line for the photo booth. This year several food tables were also available. Marina ate two snow cones and a cake dessert.

We ended up with good seats for the movie, but Marina, Jordan and Emma opted to sit on the ground close to the movie screen.

After the movie was over, Marina said she loved it. By then it was late and cold, so we headed home.

Goldilocks Hike

Every summer, Marina and I look forward to taking a theater hike. This year’s show was Goldilocks. Marina wore her Alice costume since she didn’t have a Goldilocks outfit.

We got a bit lost in the park and ended up making it to the meeting place just as the hike was getting ready to leave. It was a very hot day and a long hike. Fortunately we brought along plenty of water and snacks.

For the first scene we saw Goldilocks in her blue dress and I was impressed at how much Marina’s looked like her outfit. The show was fun and Marina clearly enjoyed it. We learned that our guide had been Mr. Hyde in the production of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde we saw three years ago.

After the show we took pictures with the cast and talked with them a while. One of the cast members recognized us from years past. It was fun to talk with her before heading home

Finding Dory

This evening we went to see Finding Dory, which opened today. We went to our favorite movie theater restaurant for the show.

We arrived early at the theater and ordered our food. Marina was pleased to talk with the families around us and was happy to chat with the kids while we waited for the movie to begin.

Marina loved the movie. She said she was so comfortable during the show that she forgot she was in a theater!

Greek Goddess

For the past few years, Marina and I have enjoyed attending the Greek Festival. Since the opening day tends to be less crowded, I decided to take part of the day off today so we could go. Marina decided to wear her Megara costume from Hercules this year.

We arrived around lunch time, so the first thing we did was eat. Marina surprised me by choosing calamari to eat. I let her try my lamb sandwich which she also liked.

After we ate, we did a little shopping – her favorite part! We saw beautiful jewelry and home accessories. Marina also tried out some of the rides.

Before we headed out, we took a look inside the gorgeous cathedral. The chapel has added some iconography since last year which we were both impressed with. When we entered the cathedral a tour was going on so we listened in for a while. By then we were ready to go home.

Broadway Beauty

Marina and I saw the Broadway version of Beauty and the Beast about four years ago. And when it was announced that it was coming back we were both anxious to see it.

Four years ago, Marina dressed in her Belle costume for the show. This time she wanted dress up again. She wore sparkly gold shoes and carried a Belle purse.

We arrived a bit early for the show. We took pictures and got a snack. They had flavored popcorn called “Be Our Guest,” naturally Marina wanted to try that.

We had really good seats for the show and were seated around quite a few nice people. We enjoyed talking with them as we waited for the performance to begin.

The show was very good. The cast was strong and Marina was engrossed from the beginning. At intermission we got up and looked in the orchestra pit at the instruments (the musicians were not there at the time).

After the show ended Marina was excited. She said it was the best she had ever seen.

Broncos Summer Kickoff

Today was the Broncos Bunch Summer Kickoff. Since this will be Marina’s last year in the club, we were both looking forward to going. We arrived a few hours after the event started and that turned out to be a good thing. It didn’t seem very crowded. We learned that the beginning had been swamped.
We saw that Lombardi trophies were on display.

Marina was anxious to go outside where she ran drills with a couple of players. Then she played on the inflatable activities. Fortunately there were no lines for the activities, so we got through them quickly.

After she tried out everything outside, we went inside. She met a couple of cheerleaders and played some games. We waited in a short line to meet Miles. We’ve never gone through the autograph line for the players because it’s always so long. But since it was very short, we went ahead. Marina seemed to enjoy chatting with them.

It hadn’t taken long for us to try out nearly everything. Since it was a hit day, we decided to leave. It was a lot of fun.

A Day With Mermaids

The aquarium had a Mermaid Breakfast this morning. We invited Mr. Chuck and Miss Judy to join us. Naturally, Marina wanted to wear her Ariel costume.

We met Mr. Chuck and Miss Judy at the aquarium and went right in for breakfast. We were seated right next to one of the tanks. Before we got our food Marina had her picture taken with two mermaids who were near the entrance.

By this time, Marina was starving. So we went through the buffet line and filled up our plates. While she was eating, Marina lost another tooth! It took a little while for it to stop bleeding.

After breakfast we watched an animal demonstration outside the aquarium. It featured turtles, a hawk, a bearcat and a macaw. Then we got our tickets for the aquarium. Marina seemed to be in a hurry to get through the exhibits and I constantly had to ask her to slow down. We caught the end of the mermaid show and actually ended up with a great view of them in the water.

While going through the aquarium, Marina completed a scavenger hunt. So when we finished going through we went to the classroom for her to pick out a prize. There were also a few activities for her to try.

Once outside the Aquarium, Marina rode the carousel and we watched the 4D movie. Then we went back inside where Marina had her picture taken with the mermaids and got into the face painting line. She chose to have a black cat on one arm and a grey one on the other!

Once we were done with all that, we were ready to go home. We spent the rest of the day hanging out at home with the cats.
