Merry Mascot

Last year Marina and I had a Christmas photo taken at the Broncos Training Facility with the Lombardi trophies. This year they offered the same opportunity or a photo with Miles the mascot and cheerleaders. Since the Broncos have not won another trophy since then, we chose Miles and the cheerleaders.

I asked Marina if she wanted to dress up for Christmas or in Broncos gear. She immediately responded, “Broncos!” So we put together an outfit of an orange Broncos shirt, a blue skirt and white leggings. I found a blue and white Santa hat to finish the outfit.

I picked Marina up after school and we drove to training facility We arrived right on time. After changing out clothes, we went to the practice field for the photo. Miles wasn’t there yet, so we waited in a short line. In front of us was a super fan who showed us photos of herself with many Bronco players.

While we waited, two Broncos cheerleaders socialized with everyone. They even gave Marina a signed picture. After a little while, Miles made his entrance wearing a Santa suit. He high fived and hugged the kids in line. Then he and the cheerleaders got in position for the photo.

We had a short wait before our photo. Marina sat in front of a sleigh where the cheerleaders were seated. I stood next to Miles. After our photos were taken, we headed out.

Football Bus

Marina had the day off today so I decided to work from home today. Marina slept in for a while, then she watched videos on her phone until lunchtime.

I planned to take a long lunch and we drove to a shopping center where we found the Sunday Night Football bus. Outside the bus we picked up a few freebies – a license plate cover and a football poster.

 

While we were on the bus, a cow mascot came on with us. We had fun getting a few photos with him as well. After checking out the bus, Marina played a game. She tossed a ball into one of the buckets and won a cup that changes with temperature.

After checked out the bus, we ran a couple of errands before heading home. Marina seemed to enjoy relaxing the rest of the day.



Warrior Cat

This evening was Marina's dance recital. She was excited to apply her own makeup. As we drove, Marina told me how nervous she was. I told her that was a good thing, to help her stay focused on what she was doing. When it was their turn, the girls did a great job on their dance.

After the recital, Marina introduced me to a new friend she made backstage. Next we found Miss Risa and gave her orange roses. Marina picked out orange roses for Miss Risa because her poms were the orange ones!. She seemed to love them.

As we drove home, Marina showed me her poms. She and one of her classmates found a way to share their colors, so now Marina’s are half orange and half blue.  She seemed pleased when I pointed out that they are now Bronco colors.

Super Christmas Picture

This afternoon we had an appointment at the Broncos Training Facility to have our picture taken with the Broncos three Lombardi trophies. Marina and I couldn’t agree on what we should wear. She wanted to wear Broncos gear and I wanted us to dress up for the holidays. We finally compromised and wore sweaters and dark pants.

We hadn’t ever been to the practice facility before. We checked in quickly and went down several levels to the field. It was huge. We got in a very short line for our pictures. When it was our turn, Miles the mascot had just walked in. The photographer called him over and her joined us in our photo. Since there was no one behind us, we got a chance to take a good look at the trophies. We also heard from a staff member that a teen club is in the works. We were both excited about that!

On the way out we took a few more photos with Miles and Marina talked to two cheerleaders who were there. They had their Super Bowl rings on, so we took a good look at those as well. Marina also got a cookie as we left. It was a fun adventure.

Football Treats

Marina was excited to attend the Broncos Bunch Trick or Treat Party today. It was the first time she got to wear her costume, Yandere Chen, her favorite anime character. She put the costume together herself out of clothing she already had and I ordered a sailor collar for her. She also tried to spray her hair black.

When we arrived at the stadium we found a very long line to get in. Fortunately, we were behind a young lady Marina’s age in a Merida costume. We ended up hanging out with her and her father the whole time we were there.

Once we finally go inside, we started with the haunted house set up in the visiting team locker room. Then we went out onto the field and took some photos. A series of trick or treat stations were set up on the other side of the field in the landscaping services section. We went through the press room and finally the Broncos locker room. Marina was most excited to see the lockers of Demaryius Thomas and Von Miller.

After we went through the path, we found a few more trick or treat stations and a chance to have our pictures taken with the three Lombardi Trophies the Broncos have won. I think I was more excited about that than Marina was, but she still took a picture of the trophies with her phone.

We went outside for Miles’ Fall Festival. There Marina had her picture taken with the Colorado Ghostbusters. They called her “Sta-Puff” since her sailor outfit looked like the marshmallow man in the movie. She collected more goodies and had her picture taken with Miles the mascot. Once we finished with all the activities, we decided to leave.

Before going home, we decided to stop for lunch. Marina wanted Japanese food to go with her costume. Marina ordered teriyaki chicken and was quite happy to eat it with chopsticks. She said she felt like a real Japanese student!

Minions at Mile High

Marina was excited to attend the Bronco Bunch Movie Night this year when she learned which movie was showing - Minions. We started out for the stadium after dinner.

During our drive there, we got caught in a huge hailstorm. Marina seemed concerned but fortunately it didn't last for long.

When we arrived at the stadium we were greeted by Miles, the Broncos mascot. Inside, we found lots of giveaways for the kids. Marina picked up a backpack, a pillow and even ice cream!

As we were about to find a spot on the field to watch the movie, we ran into a friend of mine from high school. We all decided to sit together. Marina and their daughter Ivy hit it off right away.

We found a spot close to the front of the field and settled in for the movie. The girls sat and talked until Minions began. And when the movie started, Marina shared her pillow with her new friend.

Once the movie was over, we talked with our friends for a while longer. We'd all had so much fun we promised to get together again soon.

Broncos Summer Kickoff

Today was the Broncos Bunch Summer Kickoff. Since this will be Marina’s last year in the club, we were both looking forward to going. We arrived a few hours after the event started and that turned out to be a good thing. It didn’t seem very crowded. We learned that the beginning had been swamped.
We saw that Lombardi trophies were on display.

Marina was anxious to go outside where she ran drills with a couple of players. Then she played on the inflatable activities. Fortunately there were no lines for the activities, so we got through them quickly.

After she tried out everything outside, we went inside. She met a couple of cheerleaders and played some games. We waited in a short line to meet Miles. We’ve never gone through the autograph line for the players because it’s always so long. But since it was very short, we went ahead. Marina seemed to enjoy chatting with them.

It hadn’t taken long for us to try out nearly everything. Since it was a hit day, we decided to leave. It was a lot of fun.

Monster High at Mile High

We weren't able to attend the Broncos Bunch Trick or Treat Party last year, so we were looking forward to going this year. Marina wore her Laguna Blue costume but she didn't want to wear her wig today, so today I sprayed blue in her hair instead. I think she was more comfortable that way.

The party was more crowded than the last time, so we had a lot of waiting in lines. We admired other kids' costumes and got to know other people in line. The route took us through the visitor's locker room, onto the playing field, through the maintenance facilities, the press room and the Broncos' locker room. Along the route, Marina collected candy from the many booths along the way. We also ran into monsters of all kinds. Marina didn't seem to mind at all.

Once we finished the tour through the stadium, we took pictures in front of replica lockers and looked over some of the other activities. We saw Miles, the mascot but we were not able to get a picture with him. Marina was disappointed by that.

Usually Marina enjoys the inflatable play area, but there wasn't much going on there. We looked over some of the monuments outside the stadium. By then Marina was ready to leave.

Kicking off Summer

Today was the Broncos Bunch annual Summer Kick Off. Marina always looks forward to this event. She wore her Bronco jersey and a hat from Super Bowl XXI.

When we arrived we headed immediately for the field activities. She started by running a football drill with Bronco player Charles Mitchell. She fell down during that one and wasn't happy about it. So we moved on to the inflatables which she always likes. The lines weren't long there, so she played for a while.The large slide was wet to make it more slippery, but Marina didn't like that it soaked her shorts.

When she was tired, we moved inside where we saw the Broncos and the visitors locker rooms. We also took a look at the two Lombardi trophies on display. After that we headed back outside. Marina ran more drills, including one with offensive lineman Ryan Miller.

We went back inside and met cheerleaders, alumni players and Miles, the mascot. We also took some pictures in the media room. We went back outside where she ran a drill with Bronco Stephen Johnson, who seemed to have as much fun posing for pictures as he did running the drills.

Marina spent the rest of the time playing on the inflatables. The slide was no longer wet, so the kids slid very slowly down it. That was funny to watch.

After the event was over, we drove around the stadium to a spot I had read about. After they tore down the old stadium, they marked in the new parking lot where home plate was. We found the spot and took a little batting practice before going to our home.

Movie Night at Mile High

Tonight was the Broncos Bunch movie night at Sport Authority Field at Mile High. Marina has been very excited to go. We got the invitation a few weeks ago and there were three movies to choose from. Earlier this week, we found out that Wreck It Ralph was the winner.

I was concerned about rush hour traffic, so we left right after we ate dinner. Marina wore her Bronco jersey and brought Julie along in her Bronco outfit. It was a beautiful night, perfect for watching a movie outside.

We were pretty early when we arrived, so we were able to sit on the field. We picked out a spot and spread out our blankets. The Broncos supplied the popcorn and water. Despite being nearly an hour early, the time before the movie went by fast.

Before the movie, they showed three Pixar short films. Marina was very engaged. The new big screen in the stadium is incredible. It may not have been installed for family movie night, but it served the purpose extremely well.

Sports Saturday

This morning, the Broncos Bunch had their annual Summer Kickoff. We'd had such a great time last year that both Marina and I were looking forward to going again. We got a Bronco jersey that fit her American Girl dolls, so McKenna went with us today.

We arrived early, so there was a line outside the stadium to get in. Once the event started, most of the people went to the inside, so we decided to check out the outside activities. The inflatables from last year were all there. Marina literally ran from one to the next. She was excited to meet two cheerleaders who were there. She ran a few of the football drills, but she was much more interested in the inflatable equipment.

I finally talked her into going inside. We looked at the Lombardi trophies again. She met two more cheerleaders and two retired Bronco players. She really wanted to go into the face painting line which was really long and very slow. But she was insistent, so we spent the rest of our time there waiting in line for that. She got a blue and white mermaid on her arm.

We had a quick lunch and then headed for our next stop, the Rockies and Dodgers game. McKenna exchanged her Bronco jersey for Rockies pinstripes. Today was Photo Day. We weren't sure what that meant. It turned out that fans were allowed to line the warning track around the field and the players walked around and let the fans take pictures with them. It was crowded, but were were able to get a few.

First off, we met Walt Weiss, the Rockies' manager. Marina chatted with him about McKenna for a bit before we got a picture. We also photographed third baseman Nolan Arenado and pitcher Wilton Lopez. We were nearby the Rockies star, Carlos Gonzales. There was quite a crush of people, but we managed to get a picture just before Photo Day ended.

Marina hadn't enjoyed Photo Day much, so I bribed her with cotton candy. She was happy with that arrangement. We had a while to wait for the game to start, but Marina did pretty well during that time.

Once the game started, Marina paid more attention to the multimedia presentations and the crowd than the actual game. Part way through, we left our seats to have her picture taken with Dinger, the mascot. We also picked up a snack on our way back to our seats.

By the seventh inning, Marina was tired. The game was tied and I convinced her to stay. She wasn't happy when it went into extra innings although she did create her own rally cap. I had decided if it went past the tenth inning we'd leave. However, the Rockies pulled out a win with two outs at the bottom of the tenth inning. She was cheering loudly and high fiving people near us.

After the exciting finish, we were ready to head home. We covered enough sports for one day!

Halloween at Mile High

Earlier this year, I signed Marina up for the Broncos Bunch Kids Club. Today was their annual Trick or Treat Party at Mile High Stadium. Marina wore her Merida costume and I dressed up as Cinderella. We entered into one gate and were guided through a tour of the stadium with trick or treat stations along the way.

The trail started by taking us through the visiting team's locker room. It was filled with ghosts and monsters as well as tombstones with opposing teams' logos on them. Then we went through the tunnel to the field. It was so cool to be right where the games are played!

We went through more elaborately decorated tunnels until we came to a line. After waiting for a bit, we got to have our pictures taken with the Lombardi trophies. Marina looked at one and said, "I can see myself in there." They are very shiny!

The biggest surprise came after that, we got to walk through the Broncos locker room! Most people stopped shortly after they entered. They were all stopping to take a picture of Peyton Manning's locker. So, of course, we got one too! After that we had a bit more trick or treating and each child got a pumpkin to take home.

Outside, several inflatables were available for kids to play on. Marina had to try those out as well. She had fun and got candy to take home. What could be better than that?

Broncos Bunch

I signed Marina for a club called the Broncos Bunch. She was so excited. "It's my first club ever!" she exclaimed when the welcome letter arrived. This afternoon, we attended the Club's Summer Kickoff. It was at the Bronco's stadium. Marina had never been inside before, but we have driven by many times.

The gate they had open for the event had a walkway directly on to the field. But we took a look around inside first. There we saw the two Lombardi Trophies the Broncos have won and Marina got a Bronco logo painted on her cheek. By then, she was dying to go out on the field, so we took a look.

Outside they had many activities set up. As we approached them, we ran into Miles, the Broncos mascot. He was the personality Marina was looking forward to seeing most. (She had little interest in the Bronco players.) Then we started with the inflatable. She tried the bounce house and a couple of fun obstacle courses with football themes.Then we tried some of the football drills. First, she jumped several obstacles and caught a pass from Demaryius Thomas before landing on a large mat. Then she tried running around several obstacles and then catching a toss from Julius Thomas. He was really impressed with her touchdown dance. Both were nice enough to stop for a quick picture as well.

After trying out most of the activities, we headed inside to see the Broncos Media Room and locker room. It was fun to see those places that you usually don't. It was a fun experience.
