Broncos Summer Kickoff

Today was the Broncos Bunch Summer Kickoff. Since this will be Marina’s last year in the club, we were both looking forward to going. We arrived a few hours after the event started and that turned out to be a good thing. It didn’t seem very crowded. We learned that the beginning had been swamped.
We saw that Lombardi trophies were on display.

Marina was anxious to go outside where she ran drills with a couple of players. Then she played on the inflatable activities. Fortunately there were no lines for the activities, so we got through them quickly.

After she tried out everything outside, we went inside. She met a couple of cheerleaders and played some games. We waited in a short line to meet Miles. We’ve never gone through the autograph line for the players because it’s always so long. But since it was very short, we went ahead. Marina seemed to enjoy chatting with them.

It hadn’t taken long for us to try out nearly everything. Since it was a hit day, we decided to leave. It was a lot of fun.

A Day With Mermaids

The aquarium had a Mermaid Breakfast this morning. We invited Mr. Chuck and Miss Judy to join us. Naturally, Marina wanted to wear her Ariel costume.

We met Mr. Chuck and Miss Judy at the aquarium and went right in for breakfast. We were seated right next to one of the tanks. Before we got our food Marina had her picture taken with two mermaids who were near the entrance.

By this time, Marina was starving. So we went through the buffet line and filled up our plates. While she was eating, Marina lost another tooth! It took a little while for it to stop bleeding.

After breakfast we watched an animal demonstration outside the aquarium. It featured turtles, a hawk, a bearcat and a macaw. Then we got our tickets for the aquarium. Marina seemed to be in a hurry to get through the exhibits and I constantly had to ask her to slow down. We caught the end of the mermaid show and actually ended up with a great view of them in the water.

While going through the aquarium, Marina completed a scavenger hunt. So when we finished going through we went to the classroom for her to pick out a prize. There were also a few activities for her to try.

Once outside the Aquarium, Marina rode the carousel and we watched the 4D movie. Then we went back inside where Marina had her picture taken with the mermaids and got into the face painting line. She chose to have a black cat on one arm and a grey one on the other!

Once we were done with all that, we were ready to go home. We spent the rest of the day hanging out at home with the cats.

Through the Looking Glass

We didn’t have any plans for Memorial Day. Marina would have liked to stay home and play video games all day. We discussed a few options and finally decided to see a movie. We had a few choices, but marina chose Alice Through the Looking Glass. She decided to wear her Alice in Wonderland costume for the show.

We saw the first movie a few years ago, but Marina didn’t seem to remember it. That didn’t seem to be a problem as we watched this one. She was easily able to recognize the characters. She especially loved the Cheshire Cat. The storyline was complicated but she seemed to follow it with no problem. When it ended she said she loved it.

A Mermaid Among Friends

Marina has wanted to go swimming all weekend. We had planned to go over to a friend's home yesterday but her pool was closed for repairs. So we made plans to go today after church.

We brought lunch to share. Marina, of course, brought her mermaid tail. Our friends were excited to see it and everyone was impressed by it. Despite it being such a nice day, there weren’t many people in the pool. Marina had fun swimming with her friend Jake – most of the time. He did push her into the water which upset her. She retaliated a little while later.

Later in the afternoon, a group of young women came and settled in near where Marina was sitting. She was quite happy to socialize with them. She even showed them her mermaid tail and told them about her cuddle tail. They seemed impressed.

Around dinnertime the weather turned a bit cooler so we headed inside for a while, Marina and Jake played on the Xbox for a while before we headed home. As we were driving away she told me, “That was a lot of fun!”

Mother's Day Flowers

This afternoon we went to the botanic gardens. We wanted to see the lilac gardens while they are blooming. There were quite a few people when we arrived, but we were able to find a good parking spot and we headed in.

The gardens are having a special exhibit of sculptures now, so we took a look at some of them on the way. The lilacs weren’t completely in bloom yet, but there were plenty of flowers for us to smell. We spent a long time enjoying the flowers before we moved on to other parts of the garden.

We wandered to the back part of the gardens where we saw many water features surrounded by beautiful plants. As we walked though some storm clouds moving in. So we headed toward the exit. We were fortunate to get to the car before the rain started.

Catch Me If You Can

This evening we went to see Catch Me If You Can at a local theater. I explained a bit of the story line to her but since I had never seen the show I didn’t have a lot of details.

The show was quick moving and light. She leaned over to me and commented on what good singers most of the cast were. At intermission she told me she liked the show and would be happy to see it again.  I told her I was pleased she liked it and had been worried it would be over her head. She replied, "No, it was right in the neck!"

In the second act she was impressed with the actress playing Brenda. She also liked all the big dance sequences. After it ended, she wanted to meet the major cast members. We didn’t have to wait long. First out was the actress playing Brenda. We talked with her. Then the actors playing Hanratty and Frank came out. We were able to get a photo of them all before we left the theater.

Mother's Day Tea Party

Marina and I have been looking forward to the Mother’s Day Tea Party at with Mary Poppins and Merida. Marina wore her Merida costume and brought her bow as well as her Mary Poppins umbrella.

We arrived a bit early and settled in for tea. Marina chose blueberry which she really enjoyed. She also ate some cookies. She helped some of the younger girls at the table with their tea.

When Mary Poppins and Merida arrived and the party started. After they greeted everyone, the girls were given a strawberry craft to complete. Then Mary Poppins sang “A Spoonful of Sugar” followed by Merida singing “Into the Open Air.” Then the girls gathered around for stories.

As the tea party ended, the girls tried their hand at a small archery set and posed for pictures. We stayed late as usual. It was another fun tea party.
